I'm in love with the work of Seattle dog artist, Ken Bailey!
Ken combines his love of dogs with vintage advertising to create art that makes you smile. His whimsical art deco style paintings of Terriers, Pugs, Labrador Retrievers, Boston Terriers, just to name a few, are depicted with items such as candy, juice, tea and chocolate bars. Below is one of my favorites, "Naturally Sweet Pug Orange Juice."
Recently, I purchased a collection of Ken's limited edition prints, which I will frame as a series and hang on one of the walls in my new dog portrait studio. You can purchase prints as posters or on canvas through the Ken Bailey Studio. If you're a dog or cat lover, you will delight in Ken's work!
Ken also has a blog that you can visit for news and updates about his work and products.
Side note: Upon purchasing the prints, I invited Ken to view my dog work and he wrote me the kindest note, which, coming from such a world-reknown artist such as he, I was completely humbled by his words, below:
"I did go to your site and the most eloquent thing I can say is "Wow" Photography rarely impacts me and I don't look at much wedding photography, but you do something special. I was impressed. Your work is fun and energetic. You get the artistic use of space and movement - really rare. Your work makes me smile."
Ken, your work makes me smile! Thanks for sharing your art with us.

Isn't she darling? This is Marley at her first baby portrait session. A year or so ago, I had met her parents who were neighbors of ours at our old studio in Cow Hollow, and I had photographed Marley's older brother, Max. Now it was Marley's turn to shine in front of the camera, and that she did!
The shot at the very end of the slideshow is Max during his first portrait session (I swiped the image off my old blog). I just love his little tuft of hair!

Yesterday I received a note from one of my past clients, Amy, (I had photographed her sweet lab, Keely, a while back), that I was mentioned in an article she was interviewed for yesterday's Sunday San Francisco Examiner. How exciting! I was pleased to find that I also use many of the wonderful pet services Amy mentioned in her article.
Amy is editor of DogTime.com, a web site dedicated to keeping dogs out of shelters and in good homes by equipping owners with trusted and authoritative information. Please visit her site and show your support. It's chock-full of information for pet owners.
I've pasted the entire article, below. You can also read the online version here.

I'm long overdue for a blog post! WPPI was fabulous! It is THE place to be if you are a wedding and portrait photographer. I've been going to WPPI since I began my business 8+ years ago, and it has always been THE place to find inspiration, meet new people in our industry, and learn about the newest products on the market.
I'm so honored to have had the opportunity to speak on a platform level to photographers on the subject of dog portraits. The turnout was more than I had expected and the room, unfortunately, could not accommodate all those who wanted to attend. So, WPPI asked me to do an "encore presentation" the very next day! I appreciate all those who came and listened at both talks, allowing me to share what I just love to do. I am humbled by the experience and I can't thank WPPI enough for this incredible opportunity, especially Bill Hurter, editor of Rangefinder Magazine, for believing in me. Also, a big thanks to my former studio partner Gene for being my constant source of inspiration. Thanks also to my sponsors, Bay Photo Lab and Cypress Albums, for their constant support, and to Design Aglow, Dane Sanders, Kimberly Wassenberg of Limberdog Designs and Jules Bianchi, for their generous donations for giveaway prizes.
Below is a video that Anton Lorimer produced for me as the opener for my talk. Anton never ceases to amaze me with his talent. I was fortunate to have the very fabulous photographer Jasmine Star, her wonderful husband JD and their adorable dog, Polo, star in the video.
Below are a few of the many kind notes I've received from attendees (some notes have been condensed due to their length):
Hi Ann,
I loved every minute of your talk. You're so inspiring and such a genuine person, thank you for holding another class. I'm also enjoying my "Olive goes to Hollywood" book that you gave away... thank you! I'm also thankful that there are other people in the world that think so highly of their four-legged friends! :)

Hi Ann,
I was one of the few lucky photographers to make it in your first lecture at WPPI. I was very much inspired by your dog photography (wedding too, but the dogs definitely tug my heart). I consciously took notes, and now back home (in Florida), I'm determined to open up my Dog Studio. Thank you so much for your lecture, I just can't wait to get started, it was very inspiring.

Hi Ann,
I was one of the attendees at your seminar for WPPI. Congratulations on your inauguration into the public speaking world. I came up at the end to introduce myself, but you were literally inundated with other question seekers, so I spoke briefly with Gene. I wanted to commend you on a solid presentation. Our dog Urkel, the lab, has arthritis so we can appreciate the level of care your providing to Bogie. He's 9, but a great dog. Our other dog, Bradley, a treeing walker coonhound, is just a knucklehead. Anyway, I really enjoyed your talk and your taking the time to share your passion with everyone.
Andy
